In April, for my mom’s 70th birthday we went with my mom to Ireland. I got out of the habit of writing this blog when we got back, but I helped my mom write an e-mail to her high school friends about the trip. I have reproduced that below, along with some more pictures from the trip.
I thought I would share the great vacation I went on to Ireland formy 70th birthday with my daughter, son, and his girlfriend.
My son did most of the planning for the trip and he used the Rick Steve’s Ireland book (Rick Steves Ireland 2019). Although he planned the trip for someone who is 30 years old instead of someone who is 70 years old, so I got a little tired from all of the climbing! (but I’m glad that I did it). As you’ll see from the pictures below, I was also very cold the whole time! So it might be wise to go when it’s warmer if you get really cold like me.
On the trip we went to Galway, Dingle, and Dublin. In Galway, we slept at a B&B called the Petra House (Petra House – Bed and Breakfast
). And, we saw the great scenery in the vicinity like the Cliffs of Moher, the Aran Islands, and Kylemore Abbey.
In Dingle we stayed at a B&B called Pax House (Pax House accommodation in Dingle, Kerry, Ireland
). Dingle was beautiful and the B&B was beautiful (although up a steep hill from town with no lights!). But the scenery was majestic. And, I’m glad that my travel group pulled me up the hill of rocks to see the views of the ocean. I would not have been able to do that myself at 70! Also, my son had told both places we stayed that it was my birthday, and both places surprised me with a little treat and a song!
We then drove to Dublin. On the way we stopped in Cashel to see the castle there. Then we dropped the rental car off in Dublin. My son’s girlfriend found an AitBNB apartment for us to stay at there. My favorite thing we did in Dublin was a dinner where they told us Irish folk stories about faeries and sang traditional Irish tunes (https://irishfolktours.com/
But I had a great time! Some photos we took are below.
